1-Day Granada Itinerary

Granada is compact but hilly. The Alhambra is the absolute highlight and requires advance booking.
Morning: The Alhambra (3–4 hours)

Book your ticket weeks (or months) in advance — especially for the Nasrid Palaces (timed entry).

Arrive early for your allocated Nasrid Palaces slot.
Visit in this order if possible:
Nasrid Palaces (the highlight – Court of the Lions, Hall of the Ambassadors, etc.)
Alcazaba (fortress with excellent city views)
Generalife Gardens (beautiful summer palace and gardens)

Tip: Allow plenty of time — the complex is large.
Midday / Early Afternoon

Walk down from the Alhambra toward the city center.
Lunch: Enjoy free tapas with drinks (Granada tradition). Good areas: around Plaza Nueva or Calle Calderería Nueva.

Afternoon: Historic Center + Albaicín

Granada Cathedral + Royal Chapel (optional but worthwhile if time allows – Royal Chapel houses the tombs of the Catholic Monarchs).
Stroll the Alcaicería (old silk market streets).
Walk along Carrera del Darro and Paseo de los Tristes.
Explore the Albaicín (historic Moorish quarter) — narrow whitewashed streets and carmens (houses with gardens).

Late Afternoon / Sunset

    Mirador de San Nicolás
The classic viewpoint of the Alhambra with the Sierra Nevada behind it. Best at sunset.

Evening

Tapas crawl in the center or Albaicín (free tapa with every drink).
Optional: Flamenco show in a cave in Sacromonte (very atmospheric).

Practical Tips

Essential booking: Alhambra tickets (official website only).
Walking: Expect hills and cobblestones — wear comfortable shoes.
Getting around: Most of the day is walkable. Bus C3 goes up to the Alhambra if you prefer not to walk uphill.
Pace tip: If your Alhambra ticket is in the afternoon, reverse the order (center + Albaicín first, Alhambra later).
