1-Day Granada Itinerary
Granada is compact but hilly. The Alhambra is the main highlight and must be booked in advance.
Morning: Alhambra (3–4 hours)
Book your ticket as early as possible (especially the timed Nasrid Palaces entry).
Recommended order:
Nasrid Palaces (the absolute highlight – Court of the Lions, Hall of the Ambassadors, intricate stucco and tilework)
Alcazaba (fortress with panoramic city views)
Generalife Gardens (beautiful summer palace and gardens)
Arrive early for your Nasrid Palaces time slot.
Midday
Walk downhill from the Alhambra toward the city center.
Lunch: Enjoy free tapas with every drink (a Granada tradition). Good areas include Plaza Nueva or Calle Calderería Nueva.
Afternoon: Historic Center + Albaicín
Granada Cathedral and Royal Chapel (optional but worthwhile – the Royal Chapel holds the tombs of Ferdinand and Isabella)
Stroll through the Alcaicería (old Moorish market streets)
Walk along Carrera del Darro and Paseo de los Tristes
Explore the Albaicín (historic Moorish quarter with whitewashed houses and narrow lanes)
Late Afternoon / Sunset
Mirador de San Nicolás
The classic viewpoint of the Alhambra with the Sierra Nevada mountains behind it. Best at sunset.
Evening
Tapas crawl in the center or Albaicín
Optional: Flamenco show in a cave in Sacromonte (very atmospheric)
Practical Tips
Essential: Book Alhambra tickets on the official website well in advance.
Wear comfortable shoes — lots of hills and cobblestones.
Most of the day is walkable. Bus C3 goes up to the Alhambra if you prefer not to climb.
If your Alhambra ticket is in the afternoon, simply reverse the morning and afternoon sections.
